Original Casuals has never been just about any one of football, fashion or friendship. Nor has it ever been the case that these three pillars are all that 'this thing of ours' is built upon. Youth culture has always been a far wider landscape, encompassing the social context of each generation, the media formats at that given time and - by no means least - the soundtrack for that movement.
Music is intertwined not only with our social interaction with each other but perhaps even more so in terms of the identity of youth cultural movements. Obviously, to a degree the era of each movement defines its audio background but in the same way clothing was picked to stand out and define ourselves as being 'different', likewise that same sense of rebellion can be found in all youth movements across the ages.
From the US r'n'b-tinged soul to the new breed UK groups on the mod scene in the 60's, from the ashes of punk being the breeding ground for new wave and the ska revival of the late 70's early 80's right through to the landscape covering everything from Joy Division through Pet Shop Boys to the 2nd summer of love to Oasis and beyond in the 80s and 90s, we've set our stall out not only in terms of quality but also with a healthy dose of 'fuck you' along the way.
At OC, we're forever keeping our ear to the ground [and pressed up hard against the speakers] so we'll be pointing you in the direction of some of the stuff that floats our boat from past, present and future.
Our good friend ARGH KiD is an English alternative hip hop band from Manchester, England, led by the MC/Poet David Scott. With an eclectic approach to hip hop featuring a live musicians to provide a backdrop to life in austerity UK, with all it flaws and lingering beauty. His first two singles “Frank” and “Neighbours” were met with critical acclaim and support from industry big hitters such as Chris Evans, Janice Long, John Kennedy to name but a few. Their live shows are a high-octane concoction of breakbeats, outstanding musicianship and a powerful and passionated lyrical outpouring rarely seen on stage these days.
Wordsmith Sensation David Scott has toured the country, played to sold out crowds and dazzled millions with his lyrical prowess. The “Acapella Eminem” is now the Official Poet for the NSPCC, UEFA and Manchester United and his work has been broadcast to homes across the globe. There are few artists in his genre able to provide on-point commentary and storytelling with the same spirit, skill and compassion.
David is also a poet on a mission to make the artform accessible to the masses. Using his own experiences as a template he facilitates workshops across the country, creating a sense of what is possible to young people when you pick up a pen.
ARGH KiD is often found across UK media and is a regular on ITV, BBC BT Sport and beyond. His work has been reproduced in different languages and publications around the world from Denmark’s Politiken to The New York Times.
We are delighted to be involved with David and keep your eyes peeled for our up and coming collabs and events.

SMOOVE & TURRELL
Smoove & Turrell's history although borne of the Newcastle music scene, is one firmly rooted in touring. Building on gigs near and far for over 10 years now and with 6 albums under their belt, the band have become a fixture at festivals home and abroad along with being mainstays on BBC Radio 2 and 6 Music. Always with their finger on the pulse of real life, the band have always stayed well clear of bland, lifeless pop and instead deal with real issues both personal and social in the lyrics of their tracks.
As anyone who has been to one of their gigs will attest however, this isn't at the expense of the dancefloor with the group blending influences from northern soul, funk, early electronica, rock, pop, disco & jazz with their own unique sound.
